Aikido classes for children teach self-defense skills and physical coordination in a nonviolent and fun environment. There is no competition in Aikido. Children learn through practicing with partners, helping to promote cooperation and respect for others. Children also learn techniques and body awareness as a way to develop self-discipline, concentration, and self-confidence. In every class, Aikido techniques and principles are taught through a variety of games and exercises.
We are very happy to have prospective students come by to watch a class. Parents and children can see what a class is like, meet the instructors and other parents and students.
When starting out, it's acceptable to wear sweats or something similar (it's important to have the knees covered to prevent mat burn). After the first six weeks or so, students should begin wearing a white or natural aikido or judo gi (uniform).
Dues for kids are paid monthly ($50/month) or via a punch card system ($100 for 10 punches, one punch per class). We also sell gis for children for $25; they come in a variety of sizes.
Kids' classes are held on Monday and Thursday from 5:00 to 6:00pm and on Saturdays from 9:00 to 10:00am.
